Bitcoin Policy Institute Intervenes in Abandoned Bitcoin Case, Urges Court to Dismiss Lawsuit

The Bitcoin Policy Institute (BPI) has officially applied to intervene as a defendant in the "Noah Doe" abandoned Bitcoin case, seeking to push the court to dismiss the entire lawsuit. BPI is represented by the law firm White & Case, and in addition to applying for intervention, it has submitted a proposed defense document and 15 active defenses, planning to file a motion to dismiss. BPI claims it is qualified to intervene because it has long self-custodied a portion of its Bitcoin reserves intended for indefinite holding. The plaintiff's theory that "long-term non-use constitutes abandonment" could potentially bring similar assets into the scope of future lawsuits. If the court supports this legal logic, it could set a precedent for depriving long-term self-custody users of asset ownership, impacting the legal foundation of the entire Bitcoin self-custody ecosystem.
